Even Paris, Europe’s largest town at the end of the fifteenth and beginning of the sixteenth centuries, was ill-planned, overcrowded and insanitary. These poor conditions prompted Henri IV and Louis XIII to attempt to improve the sanitation of Paris. The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain had a positive impact on the development of more sanitary conditions in London and the industrial towns.
